What skill level should I select?
It is your responsibility to ensure you have selected the correct skill level in your Uventex profile. You will only be able to enter divisions that match your skill level.
Any complaints about competitors being in the incorrect skill division will be handled by the event arbitrator (during a tournament) or the ISKA team (if reported after a tournament).
For Sports Karate
All martial arts styles have different progressions and belt levels. To make our tournaments as fair as possible, the Sports Karate skill levels are based on how long you have been training in martial arts.
Note: this is not how long you have been competing in tournaments, it is how long you have been training. If you have been training in any style of martial arts for the following time periods this would be your skill level for entry into any ISKA tournament events.
Novice: Less than 9 months training in any form of martial arts
Intermediate: 9 - 24 months training in any form of martial arts
Advanced: 25 - 48 months training in any form of martial arts
Expert: More than 48 months training in any form of martial arts
Black belts: if you have achieved your Black belt in any style you would be classified as expert level
For example:
If you have been training for two years at a Taekwondo Club and have achieved your blue belt but you changed over to a Shotokan Club and started back at your white belt in this style, you would still be classified as advanced level as you have been training in martial arts for over 2 years. It is required that you enter into the ISKA tournament as an advance skill level competitor.
For Grappling sub-events
The sub-events that ISKA hosts for grappling run under the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) rules. The skill levels are based on your belt rank under this system.
Beginner = White belt
Intermediate = Blue belt or Purple belt
Advanced = Brown belt
Black Belt = Black belt
